Clinton Avenue Reformed Church

The Clinton Avenue Reformed Church was organized in May, 1868 as a merger with the much older First Reforemd Church. The Halsey Street church was dedicated on April 10, 1872 at a cost of t $200,000 and seats 1,300.It's a late Gothic Revival building and the architect was Thomas Roberts, who also designed the Central Presbyterian church in Orange. It is now the Iglesia Roca de Salvacion.

The church is adjacent to Broad Street in Newark which served as a segment of the Lincoln Highway. It overlooks beautiful Lincoln Park, another reminder of the areas past. Until the early 20th Century Newark rivaled New York City in industry and nightlife and as a destination for tourists and travelers along the Lincoln Highway.
I've included not only the view from Lincoln Park, but also some architectural details that I found interesting. I noticed that the imprinted triangular molding around the column detail is a dupulication on a much smaller scale of a similar molding running around the steeple.

I love the layout - the distinct panels contrast the softness of the watercolor technique.
