Commission

Working on a commission this week. Actually getting to work with the owner on changing the color scheme of this beautiful Victorian in Ocean Grove, NJ. One of my favorite houses in town.

These are the two preliminary sketches just to work out composition and color scheme. I'm leaning toward the gold one on the left, but I think I'd like to use the olive color on the railings to make them "pop" some more. I like the green as well, maybe if I played up some more gold, instead of cream in the details it might be a little more rich.

Carousel Top - process

New painting of the top of the carousel at Asbury Park created for the upcoming show on the Boardwal at Ocean Grove on 7/28.

Painting Process

Real-time pictures showing my painting process. Although I prefer to work from field sketches, I'm working from a photograph of the Convention Hall in Asbury Park, NJ. Preparation for my July 28th show in neighboring Ocean Grove. Here is the reference photo:

Here is where I am this morning - I've created a quick, but careful pencil drawing of the facade. I masked out the top of the building and washed in a rich blue of aquamarine and Prussian blues. I've worked in the blue-green colors, a combo of cerulean and permanent green.

Next steps will be to work in the slightly yellow tones of the brick work.

Drawbridges over the hackensack river. I'm fascinated with the built environment and want to capture and share its beauty in my work. I'd appreciate any suggestions of techniques or artists.
