Upper panel in the painting about half way done. Interesting working with such dark values in the shadows under the dense trees. I lifted out the trees in the background and used a series of washes on the trees in the foreground. preserving the highlights where the sun reaches the ground is going to be key to keeping the painting from becoming too dark and lifeless.
